Dream. Dare. Defy.

These three words are important – they constitute the theme for Eximius 2018. The 2-day Annual Entrepreneurship Summit of IIM Bangalore has just concluded on August 5th. And what a weekend it was! The long hours put in by the entire student body were complemented by the enthusiastic participation in the events by students and professionals alike.

Sky Lantern Fest Eximius 2018

The traditional sky lanterns were flagged off the night before the opening ceremony. The night was lit, quite literally. The students came together at the sports ground to kindle the lanterns, creating an ambience full of serenity and hope. After this short break, they returned to finish the last-minute preparations continuing well into the night.

The event officially kicked off on the morning of August 4th in Open Air Theatre (OAT), with speeches delivered by leaders from diverse fields like Mr. Birendra Kumar, Zonal Head of Bank of Baroda, Mr. Anantha Narayanan, CEO Jabong and Myntra and many more, sharing their experiences and fascinating insights. Post that, the events, workshops and speaker sessions began.

The events had themes ranging from business, such as marketing and strategy, to environment and sustainability, in different formats such as case competitions and quizzes. The keynote speaker sessions had prominent inspirational personalities: women leaders, social changemakers, young leaders, venture capitalists, analytics experts and social entrepreneurs to name a few. The workshops also had a broad base: from venture capital and fundraising to social inclusion using art.

NSRCEL, the hub of entrepreneurial activity at IIMB, organized a fair for startups to share their internship opportunities. Interns get experience in the startups, along with the added benefit of interaction with startups and ventures, industry experts, mentors, academicians and researchers. NSRCEL also organized a hackathon to support new generation entrepreneurs with technological solutions.

Also, the latest series by TVF was screened for the students. It was followed by a panel discussion with TVF leaders moderated by Professor YLR Moorthi, with a large number of fans in attendance.

TVF Panel

To lighten everyone up, Raunaq Rajani was ready with his brilliant stand-up comedy performance in front of a packed OAT. Day 1 ended with War of DJ’s, in which DJ’s showcased their talent at L-square. They were innovatively judged by the enthusiasm of the crowd measured using a “scream-meter”!

The second day was as much packed as the first one without missing a beat. Speeches were delivered by extraordinary personalities, ranging from UPSC 2014 Rank 1 holder to very successful startup founders, including women leaders, social changemakers, young leaders, venture capitalists, analytics experts, social entrepreneurs, and IIMB alumni shared their experiences.

The workshops continued with diverse themes: marketing, startup fund-raising, market intelligence, the power of communication, to creating doodles. The events were even more interesting than the day before, involving marketing campaign designs, quizzes, IPO and startup pitches, case competitions, and being a minister for a day!

Mr. Rahul Narvekar at Eximius 2018

For the closing ceremony, Mr Rahul Narvekar delivered a speech about his life story: the real-life version of dream-dare-defy. He left the audience with motivation and inspiration. The event ended with a bang with excellent performances from student clubs Taal, Dhwani and Kaleidoscope.

While the event has ended, it has left all the participants with lasting memories and inspiration. This enthusiasm is likely to grow as we look forward to the coming weeks.
