The new academic year at IIM Bangalore got off to a great start with Aarambh, the cultural extravaganza that celebrates the talent of the incoming batch of PGP students. Aarambh, aptly named so, has been a tradition at IIMB and the current batch of PGP1s lived up to the expectations, putting on an extravagant show.

Organized by a bunch of enthusiastic PGP1s, ably led by their POC Dhruv Batra, in just four days, Aarambh 2018 promised to take us on a joy ride through vibrant hues and a myriad of emotions with their theme of “Emotions Overloaded”. And boy, did they live up to their promise! The creative efforts of the publicity team in adorning the hostels with joyful emojis set the mood for the upcoming festivities. The Nukkad Natak and Flash Mob performances also sparked curiosity and interest among the students.

Though the rain gods threatened to play spoil sport, the skies eventually cleared up and the night began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Amrit Anshuman, the president of the Student’s Affair Council. The PGP Chairperson Prof. Padmini Srinivasan also graced the occasion with her presence.

As the night progressed, a lot of creative talent was on display with an eclectic mix of performances. Particularly eye-catching was the dance performances of PGP1s, ranging from classical Indian dances to the energetic Bhangra. The “B roadies” play that drew upon anecdotes from the orientation week had the audience in splits.

The PGP2s also chipped in with a few performances of their own. The Masala Rock Project enthralled the audience with a fusion of Cranberry’s Zombies and Classical Hindustani Music while their rendition of Limp Bizkit had the crowd roaring for an encore. The Bollywood and Western Dance routines by the PGP1s also drew a lot of applause from the audience. The night drew to a close with a lot of glitz and glamour on show as the PGP1s walked down the ramp with panache for FashP.

As the curtains fell on Aarambh, the feeling in the air was that this was just the beginning and there is plenty more to come.
