The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Cell (EnI) at the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore (IIMB) is organizing Eximius 2011 – IIM Bangalore’s flagship entrepreneurship summit on August 13th and 14th, 2011. Eximius is an annual event that attracts participation from close to 150 colleges across the nation. The fourth edition of EXIMIUS will focus on breakthrough start-ups with its theme “Unconventional Entrepreneurship”.
As entrepreneurship gains traction in India, the focus has been more on conventional industries and start-ups have by and large ventured into areas perceived as relatively lower risk. So this year Eximius seeks to explore those unchartered areas which a few start-ups have dared to explore. It seeks to bring new perspectives to the bright young minds of India through its theme of “Unconventional Entrepreneurship”. Over the two days of the event enthusiastic students, young entrepreneurs, industry leaders and academicians will converge on the IIM Bangalore campus making it a melting pot of ideas and innovative business propositions. Staying true to its motto to “ideate, innovate and inspire”, the summit will host a wide variety of competitions, talks, workshops and panel discussions with the goal to engage budding and established entrepreneurs.
The festival has always attracted some of the best speakers in the field of entrepreneurship in the past and continues to do so even this year. The audience will learn about “the role of entrepreneurs in shaping India” in the keynote address by Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder of BPL Mobile. The festival will also give participants an opportunity to experience entrepreneurship in a workshop by Mr. Rajiv Narang, CEO, Erehwon Consulting. Serious entrepreneurs will get a chance to present their ideas to high profile venture capitalists and seek funding and mentorship at INGEN – the business plan competition. NSRCEL (N. S. Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning) at IIM Bangalore and Springboard Ventures will provide participants with incubation opportunity while i2India ventures will be scouting for the next big technological breakthrough.
This year, Eximius will also feature some unconventional start-ups and celebrate their success through a panel discussion. The participants for the panel discussion would include EduSports- India’s largest school sports company, Entertainment Engineers- a stand-up comedy firm by IIT alumni that is tickling the funny bone of India Inc with its sharp wit, Business blogging- a social media consultancy and YourStory.in – a highly successful online networking platform for entrepreneurs. Besides, Konnect – the technology panel discussion will feature entrepreneurs and venture capitalists to explore the next big technological innovation and discuss the challenges involved.
Eximius will also focus on social entrepreneurship through Reach- the social entrepreneurship case study competition. The competition will invite ideas to market and scale the venture of two women in rural Karnataka who manufacture and sell smokeless chulhas with the help of the NGO ‘Better Future’.
By bringing together some of the brightest minds in the country and igniting the spark of entrepreneurship in them, Eximius is well placed to achieve its true worth- excellence.
