The second day of IIM Bangalore’s International Business Summit, Vista, carried on the vigour from the eventful first day with impactful speeches from eminent industry experts and business leaders, exciting workshops, panel discussions, and cultural performances that brought the entire college community to life and made them “ThinkEast”.
The second day of Vista started with an interview with 2008 Olympic gold medalist – Mr. Abhinav Bindra. He urged the audience gathered to work their way through the challenges in life. He recalled the struggles in his sporting career and said that he has always striven to give his 100% every day. He also added that while sometimes the effort might not be enough, the journey taken itself was a very important experience in life.
Sponsored by YES Bank, Street Smart was one of Vista’s flagship events. In a battle of financial acumen and valuation prowess, the event saw eight finalists fight it out for the top spot. The finalists were selected based on an online quiz conducted earlier. Each finalist had to present a proposal for a deal before a panel of judges and justify their reasons. While Ashish Khullar, Yash Baheti and Nilambari Rathi from IIM Ahmedabad won the competition, the team of Sahil Makkar, Vaibhav Gupta, and Rishabh Khandelwal from IIM Bangalore came second.
One of other flagship events at Vista – Corporate Czar, organized in association with the Aditya Birla Group, asked the participants to design a marketing strategy for Abof (all about fashion) which is the online fashion retailer from ABG. Twelve finalist teams presented their strategy before the judges, who finally crowned the team from IIM Ahmedabad as the Czars this year.
Bzzwings, IIM Bangalore’s B-Plan competition, had six finalists pitching their ideas to a distinguished panel of judges and also separately pitching it to the start-up incubation cell of IIM Bangalore – NS Raghavan Center for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) for opportunities of incubation and equity funding up to INR 20 lakhs. Team ‘Inphase’ secured the first prize and the incubation offer. Inphase focused on improving the efficiency in consuming electrical power, and it has more than six product offerings. Team ‘Bioinsole’ pitched the idea of making consumer products out of organic materials and came second.
Markguru, a marketing strategy event at Vista, it required the participants to present a marketing plan for a Korean cosmetics brand looking to enter the Indian market. The six finalists presented their marketing plans before a panel of distinguished judges. While the first place went to Rohit Jain from Wellingkar college, Shalini Sharma from ISB Hyderabad came second.
The second edition of Model United Nations (MUN) conference was organized by IIM Bangalore in association with IIMUN. The participants were given roles in the model UN Security Council (UNSC) and UN Human Rights Council (HRC). The Security Council members discussed reforms that the council had to take while members of the Human Rights Council discussed the protection of Yazidis. Sivan Chakravarty was adjudged best delegate of the HRC. Prabhan Kalita and Vrinda Makhija were adjudged best delegates of UNSC.
Day-2 of Vista was graced by the august presence of renowned business and social leader Mr. Mohandas Pai, who spoke about technology led disruptive changes and their implications on human lives. Mr. Pai described the modern innovation trajectory from the invention of the steam engine to the advent and dominance of internet over the last decade. He emphasized the need to embrace changes and focus on outpacing them by building new competencies in an accelerated way.
Chairperson and Editor-in-chief of India TV, Mr. Rajat Sharma, kept the packed house hooked with many anecdotes and interesting experiences from his life. He recalled fond memories of his associations with personalities such as former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Shah Rukh Khan, and PM Narendra Modi to drive the gathered audience to focus on the importance of patient listening, determination, and hard work and how these together make a recipe for success.
The day ended on a high with wonderful music, drama and dance performances by students.
