Vista Day 1
IIMB’s Vista Day 1 Sees
Bangalore, September 25th, 2015
IIM Bangalore’s business fest Vista kicked off with the first day seeing action on multiple counts. The day began with the Youth Leadership Summit, and students were fortunate to host the eminent political veteran Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar who delighted the audience at IIMB with his unique perspective and witty humour.
The session revolved around the pillars of development and democracy which have been instrumental in shaping the country India has become since independence. He specifically highlighted how India was always way ahead of the developed nations in adopting the principles of universal suffrage and affirmative action and implementing these to the fullest.
The session concluded by restating a belief close to Shri Aiyar’s heart that “Development of a nation is not only about the growth rate”. It is about the people and about implementing the ideals of a welfare society at the core. It is paramount to cater to the needs and demands of the poor and pioneer an all-inclusive growth.
MarkGuru- Unleash the marketing genius in you!
MarkGuru, the flagship marketing case study event sponsored by BPCL in IIMB’s Vista’15, saw 6 teams from some of the best B schools in India battle it out for the top 2 positions. The 6 teams were selected from over 300 registered participants in the preliminary round. There was intense competition with each team coming up with brilliant strategies for the positioning, launch and promotion of a green, eco-friendly quadricycle. Each team had done extensive market research and also had creative ideas, making it difficult for the judges to score and judge them.
Ultimately, Team Excalibur from Goa Institute of Management and Team MarketKing from IIFT were declared winners.
Women in Management present “Impetus”
“Man or Woman – who is the better one?” is an age old question that nobody has been able to answer. Women in Management Club took this opportunity to bring the sexes together and integrate the lives of couples in this age of double income families through their B-plan competition, Impetus at Vista 2015. 10 finalists amongst 50+ entries across the country battled through the journey, providing app-based solutions ranging from syncing calendars, raising child, child healthcare to grocery shopping, laundry and house-hold chores. The teams were on their feet as they presented their idea to the senior executives from WalmartLabs. With hopes high to bring the two sexes together, only time will tell which team has got the answer to it.
‘Schneider Smart City”
Schneider Electric in collaboration with The Forum for Industrial Interaction and the Environment Sustainability Club of IIMB organized their annual flagship competition ‘Schneider Smart City’ which saw the participation of more than 40 teams from all over India. The event encouraged students to develop the plan for the economic development for breeding smart software applications and identify the specific smart software applications that will empower citizens to not only co-create the new cities, transform the existing ones but also demand better governance, reliable and high quality public utilities and services. The teams addressed a variety of sustainability challenges such as traffic management, e-waste recycling, energy metering, air pollution, water conservation, smart governance among several others. The ideas presented differed in scope from offering specific solutions to developing entire paradigms based on the concept of ‘Internet-of-Things’ (IoT). Creative ideas leveraging use of mobile apps, GPS, big data analytics, cloud, pattern recognition etc. backed by strong economic analysis were applauded by the audience and judges alike.
