“India has two million gods and worships them all. In religion all other countries are paupers; India is the only millionaire”, says famous American writer, Mark Twain. Truly, we live in a land of festivals where vibrant colors, music and festivity make our country come alive throughout the year. And IIM Bangalore is no exception to this. Here, we celebrate all festivals with great rigor.

We celebrated the festival of ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ with fervor and religious spirit this year at IIM Bangalore. ‘Pratisthapana’ marked the prelude to ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ celebrations in the campus.  Amidst reverent thoughts, overwhelming festive gaiety and traditional rituals, we brought Ganapati Bappa to our new home, IIM Bangalore.

We carried the Ganesh idol, covered with saffron cloth, in our arm and took it to the place where puja was to be performed. Early in the morning, on first day of the festival, amidst chanting of mantras and sound of cymbals, the idol was seated. The deity was then worshipped by singing ‘Ganapati aarti’ and the ‘atharvashirsha’. The celebrations reached their peak as the day progressed, which also included excellent feast at mess serving traditional delicacies.

During this festival, Ganesha is installed as the omnipotent, one who takes precedence over all others, at a place where all family members come together. I must say, at IIM Bangalore, I never had a feeling of being away from home. In fact, this year’s Ganesh festival was not much different from the earlier ones. I thank all my friends at IIM Bangalore for making this year’s celebrations memorable. Let us always keep this spirit and keep smiling.
