Blood Donation2Budding managers at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore demonstrated their sensitivity towards the society this Saturday, by hosting a successful blood donation camp in association with Lions Club of Bangalore.

The blood donation camp was organized in 2006 for the first time. Since then, the camp which is held twice a year has seen nearly 100 student donors every time. With the completion of this camp, Vikasana has helped raise 161 units of blood in the past one year. The donated blood would be stored at the Lions Club Blood Bank and blood banks at associated hospitals such as NIMHANS.

The camp was organized by student body Vikasana, a student club promoting social work and responsible living in the IIMB community. In addition to working closely with several NGOs, Vikasana boasts of a self-sustaining “Vidya Vikasana” Project that enables the schooling of over 30 slum children, funded entirely by IIMB students. In late 2012, Vikasana also facilitated practice for the Indian national Blind Cricket team that went on to win the first ever Blind Cricket T20 World Cup. During the orientation programme at IIMB, Vikasana organizes NGO visits for the whole batch of nearly 375 students to sensitize them towards their social responsibilities.

The Lions Club Bangalore, through its “Bangalore Sanjaynagar Lions Charitable Trust” regularly releases an online directory of voluntary blood donors. Over 5,200 donors have enrolled and also responded to the requirement of blood for needy patients in various hospitals.
