Among Shakespeare’s many utterances, calling the world a stage and all of us mere players is quote that all drama enthusiasts easily identify with. Drama as an art form is indeed the perfect metaphor for life, and IIM Bangalore students have always had a fond appreciation for the life lessons that can be imbibed through dramatics.

It is therefore with a great sense of pride that IIM Bangalore accepted an invite to perform its play “Party” as part of the Bangalore Theatre League & Tea arts initiative at Alliance Francaise, Millers Tank Road on the 3rd of March, 2013.

The play was directed and produced by the dramatics club of IIM Bangalore, with the cast made up entirely of IIM Bangalore students. The privilege of performing for the general public (for the first time in IIM Bangalore’s history) is testament to the vibrant dramatics culture within IIM Bangalore. The dramatics team has in the past put together several performances including stage plays, skits and street plays for the student community within the campus, and has won several accolades in inter-college and amateur competitions.

”Party”, based on the original play by Mahesh Elkunchwar, is a Chekhovian commentary detailing the shallow and unfulfilled lives of Bombay’s theatre clique. Their petty squabbles and pretences are contrasted against the anti-thesis of their phoney, self-important world in the form of Amrit – the young rising star, who has forsaken it all to live in the service of marginalised tribals in the hinterland.
